Morning Habits at School: Shaping Student Character at SMPN 24 PPU

Morning practice is one of the leading programs in building students' character, discipline and spirituality. In the school environment, activities carried out routinely and structured every morning are able to create a positive culture that has a long-term impact on students.

In this school, morning activities have been arranged with a clear and consistent schedule, starting from cleaning pickets, Duha prayers, to literacy. This combination of physical, spiritual and intellectual activities is a strong foundation in forming a moral, responsible and intelligent generation.

Structured Morning Habituation Schedule

The morning program is carried out with a predetermined time line so that it runs effectively and does not interfere with the learning process.

1. Morning Picket (06.30 – 07.15)

The activity starts with a morning picket which lasts from 06.30 to 07.15.

The main objectives of this activity are:

  • To develop a sense of responsibility for environmental cleanliness
  • To train cooperation between students
  • To get used to discipline in arriving on time
  • To keep the school environment clean and comfortable

Students take turns cleaning the classroom, yard and surrounding areas according to a predetermined schedule. This habit not only maintains cleanliness, but also builds a character who cares about the environment.

2. Dhuha Prayer (07.15 – 07.30)

After the morning picket, the activity continues with congregational Dhuha prayers from 07.15 to 07.30.

The benefits of this activity include:

  • Strengthening students' spiritual values
  • Getting used to sunnah worship from an early age
  • Instilling discipline in carrying out worship
  • Building religious school atmosphere

Dhuha prayer is an important moment to form a balanced character between academic and spiritual intelligence.

3. Morning Literacy (07.30 – 08.00)

The next stage is literacy which takes place from 07.30 to 08.00.

Literacy activities can include:

  • Reading story books, textbooks or educational articles
  • Reading the Koran or religious reading material
  • Short discussions about the content of the reading
  • Writing a summary or reflection

The literacy program aims to increase interest in reading, broaden horizons, and train students' critical thinking and communication skills.

Positive Impact of the Morning Habituation Program

Implementation of this routine activity provides many benefits for school members, including:

  • Improving student discipline
  • Forming the character of responsibility and cooperation
  • Fostering clean and orderly living habits
  • Strengthening religious values in everyday life
  • Improving literacy culture in the school environment

Programs like this also create a more conducive learning environment before the core learning process begins.

Why is this program important?

Familiarization is not just a routine activity, but an effective character education strategy. With consistent implementation every day, students will get used to doing positive things without needing to be constantly supervised.

This morning activity at school is a real example of how the synergy between cleanliness, worship and literacy can go hand in hand to form a superior and moral generation.
